Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden asked the head of theWhitre House’s Automobile Task Force to determine whether the decision to close Chrysler dealershipsz is in the best interest of the statwe and the nation. “It is inconsistentf with American values to force business owners to secure financinvg with their homes and other personapl assets and then turn arounc and shut them down and refuser to buy backtheir cars,” Wyden said in a news release. “I’m also worried that some majoer population centers inOregon won’t be able to get theirf cars serviced or have theie warranties honored.
” Chrysler announced last month it will close 789 of its nearlyh nationwide 3,000 dealerships on June 9. Generapl Motors, which filed for bankruptc protection onJune 1, had earlier announcer plans to close the Bob Thomas Car Co. in The closing would take placw inOctober 2010. “If GM abrogateds Bob Thomas Car Company’s dealer it will have no distribution or servicd outlets incentral Oregon’s largest Wyden wrote in a letter to Generall Motors. “In short, terminating their GM dealershi will negatively impactthe Thomases, their GM customers and the communitty at large.
