billion deal to sell its land-line operations servingt mostly rural areas in Ohio and 13other states. New York-baserd Verizon (NYSE:VZ) said the buyeer of the land-line businesses is Stamford, Conn.-based . (NYSE:FTR). Othe r states with operations involved in the dealincludse Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, Southu Carolina, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin, as well as a smallk number of Verizon exchanges in California. Verizon said 11,000 of its employees who supporf the local phone businessx being acquired will continued employmentwith Frontier.
The companies said the deal will take a year to completer and requires approval of Frontier shareholderx and variousregulatory agencies. Upon the deal’ws close, Frontier said it will becom thelargest rural- and small city-focused telecommunications provider in the U.S. The companyg previously bought a numberof land-line assets from Verizoh from 1993 to 2000.
